Tour Itinerary- 11 Days Congo- Rwanda Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda – Pick Up
Arrival in Rwanda, pick up by our tour guide and transfer to Kigali for overnight. Depending on arrival time, early arrival you will have a grand city tour of Kigali city.Dinner & Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel / Hotel des Mille Collines (Luxury), Strippe Hotel Biz (Mid-range)
Day 2: Transfer to Khauzi Biega
In the morning, you will set of to Khauzi Biega NP in Bukavu, crossing via Cyangungu boarder. You will reach Khauzi Biega in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Orchids Hotel.
Day 3: Lowland gorilla tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu
In the morning, you will go for lowland gorilla tracking, enjoy the gorillas feed in the forest and take photography. You will then drive back to Rwanda – lake Kivu and have an overnight at Lake Kivu Serena ( Luxury), Palm Gardens Resort / (Mid-range), Paradise Malahide Hotel (Basic).
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
In the morning at 7:00 am, set off to Volcanoes NP reaching in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay in Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Volcanoes Lodge ( Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / La Palme (Mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (Basic).
Day 5: Gorilla trekking and visit Twin Lakes
Have an early breakfast report to the Ruhengeri park headquarters as early as 7:00am. Have a short briefing about dos and donts when tracking gorillas and enter the rain forest in search of the mountain gorillas. It is advisable to carry along with you a packed lunch, energy bite and mineral water on this expedition because sometimes tracking can last very long from 1 -6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Spend a maximum of one hour with the gorillas then return to your lodge. In the afternoon if your up for it head out for a village walk and meet locals who live around the park or tour the twin lake of Burera & Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at your lodge
Day 6: Golden Monkeys racking – Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, you will report to the park headquarters for another briefing before setting off for the Golden monkey trekking in the jungle forest. Return back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will transfer to Lake Kivu. Upon arrival, you can relax at the beach or take a swim in this fresh and bilharzia – free lake. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena ( Luxury), Palm Gardens Resort / (Mid-range), Paradise Malahide Hotel (Basic).
Day 7: Pick up – Transfer to Nyungwe National park
Pick up by our company tour guide from either the airport or hotel and will brief you about your safari, drive off to Nyungwe forest national park. Dinner and Overnight stay at Nyungwe Forst Lodge ( Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range), Gisakura Guest House (Basic).
Day 8: Chimps Tracking – Canopy walk/nature walk/birding
Early rise for breakfast and head out to Nyungwe forest headquarters for briefing about tracking chimps. The rangers know the best spots where you can easily track the chimpanzees. As you hike through the forest, you will come across other primates like monkeys, these will excite you as you get closer to the chimpanzees. Birds will be all over and for birdwatchers, this is the best place to be. Getting a chance to see these chimpanzees is breathtaking; you will see them play on trees, rest and feeding. You are allowed to take as many pictures as you can as long as you observe silence. After a wonderful time with the chimpanzees, you return for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, you go for a forest canopy walk or nature walk to see the twin lakes. You will spot different species of birds. Have dinner and overnight at your hotel
Day 9: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, depart for Kigali. Have an optional city tour in Kigali including a visit to the genocide museum, the art and craft center, local markets. Later, hotel check-in. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel / Hotel des Mille Collines (Luxury), Urban Boutique Hotel (Mid-range), Garr Hotel / Hotel Chez lando (Budget)
Day 10: Transfer to Akagera National Park
You will drive to the east of Rwanda to Akagera National Park after being briefed about your safari. You will have an afternoon canoe ride on Lake Ihema. This will reward you with views of water loving animals like Hippos, out-sized crocodiles and water birds like the papyrus Gonolek, shoebill stork and African fish eagle. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Safari Lodge (Luxury), Ruzizi Tented Camp (Mid-range), Akagera game lodge (Budget)
Day 11: Game Drives And Later Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you will go for the early morning game drive which will reward you with views of wildlife such as elephants, impala, black-tailed mongoose, hippos, oribi, bushbuck, antelope, zebra, cape eland, giraffe, buffalo, and also primates like the olive baboon, vervet monkey, bush baby. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the late afternoon, drive back to Kigali to be dropped off at your preferred hotel or transferred to the airport in time for departure flight.
